The Sociology of Translation
Not every book can cross from one language to another. So what makes a publisher or translator choose a particular work and leave another? Is it market appeal, the need for cultural representation and identity, or the desire to build bridges with different literary experiences? This session explores the visible and hidden criteria that shape translation choices, and how these decisions influence both the image of Arabic literature in the world and the selection of global works that reach Arab readers.
