The Art of the Illustrated Book

The publishing of integrated illustrated books brings together culture, craftsmanship and storytelling and provides an opportunity to share visually engaging subjects with a broad international audience. In this session, Julian Honer, Board Director and Editorial Director of the Museum and Institutional Publishing Division at Thames & Hudson, explores the unique role of illustrated books within the art and design sectors. Showcasing special projects for brands such as Liberty, as well as collaborations with leading institutions including the British Museum, the V&A and the British Library in London, M+ museum in Hong Kong and the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, he highlights how attention to design, materials and storytelling can elevate books into cultural objects in their own right.
