Can We Trust AI to Tell History?

Explores what it means to interpret and tell history when AI begins to mediate how people encounter the past. From a humanities perspective, the session considers how historical accounts are shaped by evidence, selection, language, perspective and the values of the communities and institutions that preserve them.

Rather than examining the technical operation of AI, it asks what happens when historically complex material is condensed into fluent, apparently authoritative narratives. It considers how historians and knowledge institutions can remain attentive to context, uncertainty, competing perspectives and the human responsibilities involved in making sense of the past.
